The length of stereocilia actually vary from 10 to 50 micrometers. again, assuming that they behave like simple pendula, over what frequency range of sound waves would they resonate. (the actual frequency range of human hearing is 20 hz 20,000 hz, so might there be other mechanisms involved and/or might the pendular model be rather oversimplified? )
a. about 70 hz -160 hz.
b. about 440 hz - 1000 hz.
c. about 20 hz - 50 hz.
d. about 0.07 to 0.16 hz.

Asolid cylinder and a cylindrical shell have the same mass, same radius, and turn on frictionless, horizontal axles. the cylindrical shell has light-weight spokes connecting the shell to the axle. a rope is wrapped around each cylinder and tied to blocks of equal masses that are held the same height above the ground. both blocks are released simultaneously. the ropes do not slip. which block hits the ground first? or is it a tie?

The heater element of a 120 v toaster is a 5.4 m length of nichrome wire, whose diameter is 0.48 mm. the resistivity of nichrome at the operating temperature of the toaster is 1.3 × 10-6 ω·m. the toaster is operated at a voltage of 120 v. (a) what is the power drawn by the toaster? (b) if the cost of electricity is 12 ¢ per kilowatt-hour, and it takes 2 minutes to toast bread, how much does it cost for toasted bread? (c) when the heater element is at room temperature, is the resistivity in the nichrome wire greater than, less than, or equal to it’s resistivity when at operating temperature? explain.
