Heavy duty springs are always installed on the ground at the bottom of the shaft underneath an elevator to provide last-minute rescue. (if you have a chance, take a look at our school elevator, you'll see them located on the ground at b level). in a "worst-case" design scenario, a 1550 kg elevator with broken cables is falling at 8.60 m/s just before it starts compressing a cushioning spring at the bottom. the spring is supposed to stop the elevator, compressing 26.0 cm as it does so.
find the spring constant. ignore air resistance and friction in the elevator guides.

The magnitude of the magnetic field at a certain distance from a long, straight conductor is represented by b. what is the magnitude of the magnetic field at twice the distance from the conductor? a. at twice the distance, the magnitude of the field is 4b. b. at twice the distance, the magnitude of the field is 2b. c. at twice the distance, the magnitude of the field is b/2.d. at twice the distance, the magnitude of the field is b/4.e. at twice the distance, the magnitude of the field remains equal to b.

The particle p starts from rest at point a at time t = 0 and changes its speed thereafter at a constant rate of 2.8g as it follows the horizontal path shown. determine the magnitude and direction of its total acceleration (a) just before point b, (b) just after point b, and (c) as it passes point c. state your directions relative to the x-axis shown (ccw positive) and choose the angle with the smallest magnitude.
