Two small metallic spheres, each of mass m = 0.45 g, are suspended as pendulums by light strings from a common point as shown in the figure below. the spheres are given the same electric charge, and it is found that they come to equilibrium when each string is at an angle of θ = 4.6° with the vertical. if each string has length l = 26.0 cm, what is the magnitude of the charge on each sphere?
i got 8 nc but it is saying my answer is within 10% but it is not completely right. my calculator will not go in mre depth than 9 digits so i am not able to get a more detailed answer. can someone tell me what i am doing wrong? here is my work:
mgtan(theta)=fe
0.00045 * 9.8 * tan(4.6) =35.482 *10^-5
r= 2*.26*sin(4.6) = 4.17 *10^-2
so,
(35.482 * 10^-5) = (9 * 10^9) * q^2 / (4.17 *10^-2)^-2
and solved for q the answer is 0.8
