Asmall toy block with mass 0.800 kg is suspended from the end of a rigid massless rod that is 1.60 m long. the block has an initial velocity of 0.20 m/s to the left at the moment that the rod is perfectly vertical. at that same moment a ball of gum, m, um-0.0040 kg, travelling to the right with constant velocity strikes the block and sticks to it. assume no change in center of mass. after the collision the combined object swings up to a height of 0.600 m, the tension in the massless rod is 5.50 n. note: this tension cannot be explained by gravity alone, so carefully consider the consequence of this fact (a) what was the initial velocity of the gum before the collision? (b) what magnitude of average drag force would have to exist for the same gum and toy block with the same initial conditions to only reach a height of 0.500 m? this is simplifying drag as constant and not velocity dependent. (c) using the same initial velocity for the pendulum as in parts ()and (b) what initial velocity would the gum need in order for the massless rod to have zero tension at maximum potential energy?
