Interference of sound waves
two identical speakers are found at points (-x0, 0), (+x0, 0). they have the same phase and emit sinus waves with same amplitude a0 . (sound speed; v = 340 m/s)
a) what's the wavelength ? and wavenumber k of the oscillations when the speakers' frequency f is 1.1 khz?
b) how to both signals overlap along the connecting line between the speakers? consider both signals to be plane waves and write the result as a product of a location and a time dependent component. at which point is no signal heard?
note: cos(a) + cos(b) = 2 cos ((a+b)/2)*cos((a-b)/2)
c) now you place a microphone at (xm, 0). the excitation frequency of the speakers the excitation frequency of the speakers
is tuned from 20 hz to 20 khz. what are the 3 lowest frequencies that produce destructive interference at the location of the microphone? use x0 = 15m, xm = 5m .

Light from a sodium lamp passes through a diffraction grating that has 1000 slits per millimeter. the interference pattern is viewed on a screen 1.000 m behind the grating. the first (m = 1) two bright yellow fringes that are visible are 0.7288 m and 0.7300 m from the central maximum. what are the wavelengths of these two fringes?

Abag of potato chips contains 2.00 l of air when it is sealed at sea level at a pressure of 1.00 atm and a temperature of 20.0 deg c. what will be the volume of the air in the bag if you take it with you, still sealed, to the mountains where the temperature is 7.00 deg c and atmospheric pressure is 70.0 kpa? assume that the bag behaves like a balloon and that the air in the bag is in thermal equilibrium with the outside air.

Ametal ring 4.20 cm in diameter is placed between the north and south poles of large magnets with the plane of its area perpendicular to the magnetic field. these magnets produce an initial uniform field of 1.12 t between them but are gradually pulled apart, causing this field to remain uniform but decrease steadily at 0.240 t/s . (a) what is the magnitude of the electric field induced in the ring? (b) in which direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) does the current flow as viewed by someone on the south pole of the magnet?
