are absolute value functions differentiable? for example, i have f(x)=abs(x-3) on the interval [2,4]. if it is not differentiable, then i can't use rolle's theorem, but i don't know if it is or isn't differentiable. how do i tell? i took the derivative and i got (x-3)/(abs(x- but i don't think that's right?
