What affect does an outlier have on a box plot?

1 is the characteristics of a variable such as if its positive or negative
2. outliers are numbers that are further away than all the other points on a number line. such as 5 6 7 8 12, 12 is an outlier
3. there are the whiskers which are the long lines with the dots  with the dot to the left being the minimum and the dot to the right being the maximum and in the box, the line inside of it is the median and to the right of it is the upper quartile and to the left is the lower quartile
