Well, 32 - 8 - 12
That is 12 
There are 12 peanuts left in the bag

To check:
Elliot took 8
Zaire took 12
There are 12 left in the bag
We started with 32
8+12+12 =?= 32
8 + 24 =?= 32

SO THERE ARE 12 PEANUTS LEFT IN THE BAG!!!
