Let the wholesale price of the television be n and the selling price be m.

we know that the selling price (m) is 66$ less than than 3 times the wholesale price (66% less than 3n).
transforming this to an equation, we get:
m = 3n - 66

Now, it is given that the selling price (m) is 889$, substitute in the equation to get the wholesale price as follows:
889$ = 3n - 66
889 + 66 = 3n
3n = 995
n = 318.334$
