What was the purpose of the League of Nations?

The purpose of the League of Nations was to try and keep peace between the other nations so another would not break out (WW2 happens 2 decades later). The idea was to prevent wars through disarmament, collective security, and negotiation. It crashed and burned because it created the Treaty of Versailles (made Germany pay reparations), aims were too ambitious, Germany and Russia and USA were not members, no army, organization was not well organized, and decisions were unanimous.

The League of Nations was an international organization, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, created after the First World War to provide a forum for resolving international disputes. Unfortunately, the League failed miserably in its intended goal: to prevent another world war from happening (WW2 broke out only two decades later). The idea was for the League of Nations to prevent wars through disarmament, collective security, and negotiation.
