Ameena, the statistician we met in Question 1, is taking a course in
demography, which is the study of the various characteristics of a population
living in a place. She is currently working on an assignment for which she
needs to download data on population density in the UK. This data is also
available from the ONS, reported as the number of people per square km;
the latest available figures are for 2018.
The country of Scotland is geographically divided into units called Council
Areas. Ameena's assignment asks her to draw a random sample of 20
Council Areas of Scotland. She drew a random sample, and saved the result
as the Minitab worksheet Scotland. mwx. The worksheet contains two
columns: the first column headed Place, contains the name of the Council
Area, while the second column, headed Density, contains the population
density for each of these Council Areas.
(a) Ameena is required to test. using a one-sample z-test based on the
random sample she obtained, whether the average population density
among all the various Council Areas of Scotland differs from the overall
population density of England, which according to the ONS is
