Answer the questions and show all your work on
separate paper.
It's snack time and you are going to make some snack mix
for you and your friends. You have two snack mix recipes.
You will make at least one batch of each recipe.
For Recipe 1, each batch needs: 1 cup almonds,
cup raisins, and cup sunflower seeds.
For Recipe 2, each batch needs: 2 cup almonds,
cup chocolate chips, and 1 cup sunflower seeds.
Here's what you have in the kitchen: 5 cups of almonds,
2 cups of raisins, 3 cups of sunflower seeds, and 1 cup of
chocolate chips.
How many batches of each recipe will you make?
Explain your decisions. Use visual models and/or write
equations. Show how much of each ingredient you
will use to make the number of batches of snack mix
that
you choose.
How many cups of snack mix will you have in all when
you are finished?
Reflect on Mathematical Practices
Model What visual models did you use, and why?
How did each model help you understand and solve
the problem?
Reason Mathematically Both recipes use sunflower
seeds, but they use different amounts. How did you
make sure that you had enough sunflower seeds for all
your batches of snack mix?
