You work at a delivery company. Your boss wants you to determine the average cost of diesel per mile for 9 old delivery trucks. On an average day, the old trucks use a total of 180 gallons of diesel and travel 1,980 miles. Additionally, he wants you to determine
the average cost of diesel per mile for 3 new delivery trucks. On an average day, the new trucks use a total of 44 gallons of diesel
and travel 660 miles. If diesel is $3.30 a gallon, what is the difference between the old and new trucks in average cost for diesel
per mile.
Your Calculation:
1,980 = 180 = 11 miles/gallon
3.30 - 11 = $0.30 per mile
And
660 = 44 = 15 miles/gallon
3.30 – 15 = $0.22 per mile
Therefore, 0.30-0.22 -0.08per mile
Is there a mistake in the calculation? If so, Identify the mistake.
