Are snakes left-handed or right-handed? Sometimes snakes coil so that their left side is pointing in and sometimes they coil so that their right side is pointing in. While watching a snake for a period of time, you can count the number of times a snake coils left and the number of times it coils right. For the following experiment, several cottonmouth snakes were observed over a period of time. And for each snake, the proportion of times it coils to the left was recorded. Note: If a snake coils to the left half the time the proportion of left coils would be 0.5. If it coiled to the left more than half the time, the proportion would be greater than 0.5, and if it coiled to the left less than half the time the proportion would be less than 0.5. Four different categories of snakes were observed: adult males, adult females. Juvenile males, and juvenile females. Several snakes in each category were observed, and the proportion of left coils was recorded for each. Assume that the measure "proportion of left coils" is normally distributed.
Below are the left-coil proportions for 15 adult females: 0.550 0.609 0.582 0.545 0.600 0.585 0544 0.656 0.491 0.696 0.424
A) How many degrees of freedom are associated with this sample size?!
B) Find the sample mean and sample standard deviation. Note: you can use a computer to calculate this for you.
C) Assuming that u 0.5, calculate the T-statistic for the given sample.
D) What does this test statistic imply about this sample of 15 adult females? Is this sample mean unusual or not?
E) What does this test statistic suggest about the population of adult females' coiling preference?

In a test for esp (extrasensory perception), a subject is told that cards only the experimenter can see contain either a star, a circle, a wave, or a square. as the experimenter looks at each of 20 cards in turn, the subject names the shape on the card. a subject who is just guessing has probability 0.25 of guessing correctly on each card. a. the count of correct guesses in 20 cards has a binomial distribution. what are n and p? b. what is the mean number of correct guesses in 20 cards for subjects who are just guessing? c. what is the probability of exactly 5 correct guesses in 20 cards if a subject is just guessing?
