a)      Find the height of the banner if Amira uses all of the blue paint. Show work.

b)      The school colors are blue and yellow, so if Amira wants to add yellow rectangles on the left and right sides of the blue rectangle. The yellow rectangles will each be 3/4 yard wide and the same height as the blue rectangle. What will be the total area of the two yellow rectangles?

Area of a rectangle = length * width

Area using the blue paint = 1 ½ square yards.

Height = 1 ½ square yards / 2 ¼ yards or  1.5 sq. yds / 2.25 yd = 0.666 yd or 2/3 yd

1 Yellow rectangle: width = ¾ yards ; length = 2/3 yards

Area of yellow rectangle = ¾ yds * 2/3 yds = 6/12 or ½ square yards

Area of the 2 yellow rectangles = ½ square yard * 2 = 1 square yard.
