Assume that a sample of 100 individuals resulted in a mean of 2.75 cups of coffee per day and that a sample of 250 men over the age of 18 has a mean weight of 201 lbs. Use the alternative hypothesis (H1) to help you write the problem to be computed in probability notation as we did in class, for each scenario. This following is known about the the populations and is NOT based on a sample. The true s. d. of cups of coffees consumed per day is 1.5 and the true s. d. of weight is 30 lbs. Test the hypotheses you wrote for the pre-class assignment using a 5% level of significance. Decide whether to reject the null in each case. In your owns words, explain what conclusion we can draw based on the test.
