about 7.674 million are defined as "visible minority population". The Employment Equity Act defines
visible minority population as "persons, other than Indigenous Peoples, who are non-Caucasian in race
or non-white in color." The three largest visible minority groups in Canada in 2016 are Chinese, South
Asian and Filipino. Showing all relevant steps in your work, answer the following questions.
Question 1: What is the probability of selecting an individual that is either South Asian or Filipino at
random from a list of all 7.674 million visible minority persons? (2 marks)
Question 2: What is the probability of selecting a visible minority person that has settled in the Maritime
Provinces (Newfoundland, PEI, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick)? (2 marks)
Question 3: What is the probability of selecting a visible minority person that identifies with any of these
three groups listed in the table? (2 marks)
Question 4: What is the probability of selecting a visible minority person that is South Asian and lives in
Manitoba? (2 marks)
