chickens (c) have 2 legs and rabbits (r)  have 4 legs.

c + r = 22c = 22 - r
2c + 4r = 76 legs

2(22 - r) + 4r = 76
44 - 2r + 4r = 76
44 + 2r = 76
2r = 76 - 44
2r = 32
r = 32/2
r = 16

c + r = 22
c + 16 = 22
c = 22 - 16
c = 6

so there is 6 chickens and 16 rabbits
