Directions: Read the scenario below, then answer the associated questions. Be sure to show all your work.

Your parents gave you a $50 bill and a few coupons. They asked you to drive to the local grocery superstore for a few items. They are having friends over for the Saturday night hockey game.

1. Your parents need 2 pounds of chipped ham to make ham barbecue sandwiches. The chipped ham is on sale for $3.99 per pound. How much are you spending on chipped ham?

2. You need to buy ketchup for the ham barbecue sandwiches. There is a 32-ounce bottle of ketchup for $3.69 and a 44-ounce bottle of ketchup for $5.00. Which bottle of ketchup is the better deal per ounce?

3. The grocery superstore sells hockey T-shirts. Your parents both want a hockey T-shirt. You have a coupon for sports clothing: buy one get one for $10. The T-shirts are both priced at $15.50. How much will the T-shirts cost with the coupon applied?

4. Brown sugar is also an item you need to buy for your parents to make ham barbecue sandwiches. There are two different sizes of bags of brown sugar at the grocery store. There is a 16-ounce bag for $2.19 and a 20-ounce bag for $3.25. You have a coupon for $0.55 off a bag of brown sugar 20 ounces or larger. You want to purchase a cheaper bag. Is it cheaper to purchase the smaller bag without the coupon or is it cheaper to purchase the larger bag with the coupon?

5. Calculate the total cost of the items you are buying.

6. Calculate the amount of change you will receive from the cashier.
