In 1968, during the Vietnam War, Dr. Benjamin Spock was tried in Boston forconspiring to counsel young men to illegally avoid the draft. It was thought that women would be more sympathetic to Dr. Spock because a larger percentage of women were opposed to the Vietnam War and because many women had used his book about childcare.
