Horse racing seems like a sport, where you bet money on which horse will win, and if it does, you get your money back. You probably think that after their racing days are over, these horses enjoy happy lives. But do you know what happens to the losers that win no money? Sadly, their owners don’t just accept that this horse isn’t able to race, they try to force racing on the horse. If that doesn’t work, they are sent to slaughter. I can’t think of any other sport where the losers die, except dueling and bullfighting, which again aren’t sports. Unfortunately, the horrors don’t stop there. These horses are sent halfway across the world to Japan or South Korea, without proper care. All of this because they can’t race as well, and the japanese and Koreans want horse-meat. Horses were not meant to race, so that ability shouldn’t be expected. Horses can run fast, but in races they are pushed to the very limits. Now, if a horse needs to run fast to get off some energy, let them do it. But, in races they are not allowed to stop, even when they must take a break. Forcing horses past that point has caused many horse deaths. Since December 26, 2018 23 horses have died on the Santa Anita racetrack.
