Suppose that a fifth grade class has decided to build a two-story purple Martin bird hotel. Each story of the hotel will have six identical compartments. The bird hotel will be made from wood and each story will have the following characteristics. The inside dimensions of each compartment measure 7 1/2 in by 7 1/2 in by 7 1/2 in.
The wood used for the interior walls is 1/4 in thick
The wood used for exterior walls is 5/8 in thick.
What is the length, height and width of one story?
The two-story bird hotel will have these additional characteristics.
Each story has a floor that creates an overhang of 1 in in all directions.
The roof is flat and creates an overhang of 1 in in all directions.
The wood used for the floors and roof is 3/4 in thick.
What is the total length, width and height of the entire hotel?
