Tools needed: Straightedge, calculator, paper, pencil, and protractor
Step 1: Use a pencil and straightedge to draw 3 large triangles - an
acute, an obtuse and a right triangle. Label the angles of the triangle as 1,
2, and 3. See illustration to the right.
Step 2: Measure the angles of each triangle and complete the table below.
Type of Triangle m<1 m<2 m<3 Sum of
angles
Acute Triangle
Right Triangle
Obtuse Triangle
Step 3: Take the acute triangle and tear off each of the angles from the triangle. Arrange the
three angles so that their vertices meet at a point. What do you notice?
Step 4: Repeat the process with the Right triangle and the obtuse triangle.
Your Assignment:
Create a presentation to submit in the dropbox that contains the table above, pictures of your
exploration, a conjecture about the sum of the angle measures of a triangle as well as
answers to the questions below.
1. Look for any patterns in the table above. What conclusion (conjecture) can you make
about the sum of the angles of any triangle as you analyze the data collected in the chart
above?
2. Sketch a picture to illustrate the following and fill in the blank.
If two angles of one triangle are equal in measure to two angles of another triangle then
the remaining two angles .

Kevin has a spinner that has 10 equal sections and 2 sections of each color—red, blue, green, yellow, and purple. kevin spins the spinner 180 times. kevin determines about how many times the spinner will land on red or green, and his work is shown below. -kevin has the formula reversed; it should be the total number of sections over the number of red or green sections. -kevin should have used a 4 in the numerator because there are 2 red sections and 2 green sections. -kevin should multiply by the number of sections in the spinner rather than the total number of spins. -kevin calculated the prediction correctly and did not make any mistakes.
