B. After going to the video store, you stop by a bookstore. You see three magazines you want, and each cost $3. Once again, your friend loans you money to buy them. Including your DVD purchase, what are your available funds after buying the magazines?
2. (6 points) Adam builds model rockets. Where he lives, his backyard is 12 feet below sea level. When he ignites his rocket, it flies a maximum of 350 feet straight up into the air before releasing its parachute. What is the altitude of Adam’s rocket at its highest point, as measured from sea level?
3. (12 points) Melissa is an expert scuba diver. She’s down in the Pacific Ocean, looking for a rare type of sunfish. At one point, she is 29 meters below the surface of the water.
A. As she swims around, looking for the fish, she swims for 12 minutes, and rises upward by 15 meters. What is her final depth at the end of the 12 minutes?
B. Later in her dive, Melissa is at a depth of 40 meters. She decides to rise toward the surface very slowly. Every minute, she rises 2 meters. If she does this for 8 minutes, what is her depth?
