1. The pipe bend shown in Figure (a) below is in the horizontal plane and is part of a continuous pipeline conveying oil. The oil, with a specific gravity of 0.85 leaves the reducing bend at Section B with a velocity of 13 m/s and at a pressure of 79.66 kPa. The oil then continues to flow along the pipeline. 2. Objectives:
a. Describe in words as well as identify and insert on your drawing, a suitable Control Volume.
b. Determine
i. The velocity of the oil at section A
ii. The pressure at section A (assume negligible losses across the bend)
iii. The magnitude and direction of the force required to hold the bend in place. Resolve all forces along the x and y reference axes shown such that the x-axis is parallel to the inlet velocity at Section A
