Jacob throws an acorn into the air. It lands in front of him. The acorn's path is
described by the equation y=-3x2 + 6x + 6, where x is the acorn's horizontal
distance from him and y is the height of the acorn.
Solve -3x2 + 6x + 6 = 0 to see where the acorn hits the ground.
Are both solutions reasonable in this situation?
O
A. x= -6 +13=-4.27 feet and x = 6 - 13 4.27 feet. Both solutions
are reasonable.
O
B. x= 1 + 5 2.73 feet and x = 1 - 152-0.73 feet. Both solutions
are reasonable
MANI
O
c. x= 1 + V3 2.73 feet and x = 1 - _5=-0.73 feet. Distance can't be
negative, so x = 1 - v3 is not a reasonable solution.
O
D. x= -6 + 5 = -4.27 feet and x = 6 -15 4.27 feet. Distance cant
be negative, so x = -6 + 3 is not a reasonable solution.
