A corn grower is interested in testing a new herbicide. She has a large field that she will divide into 10 plots. Since the field could have differences in soil composition, moisture, etc., she divides the plots each into two equally sized halves. One half is randomly assigned to get the herbicide, and the other gets nothing (control). At the end of the year, she records the yield of corn (in bushels/acre) for each half.
