The solid walls of the microwave oven keep the microwave radiation from escaping the oven’s interior. But the door to these ovens has a glass window that we can see through. If you look closely at the door, you will see a metal grid sandwiched between theglass panes of the window. How and why does the metal grid in the door of a microwave ovenprotect us from the microwave radiation released inside of the oven that cooks our food?To answer this question, you need to compare the wavelength of the microwaveradiation and the wavelength of visible light. Use the wavelength for the microwave radiation you calculated above. For visible light, use 500 nanometers. The openings in the metal grid found in microwave oven doors are about 1 mm in diameter.
