1) 4x + 12 = 2x + 60

4x - 2x = 60 - 12
2x = 48
Divide by 2 on both sides, x = 24

2) do the same thing, collect like terms and change the sign
6y + 4 = 2y + 16
6y - 2y = 16 - 4
4y = 12 (divide by 4 on each side)
y = 3

3) substitute x into the equation
For Q1, x was 24
2(24) + 60 = BC
Times 2 and 24 together and add 60
BC= 108

4) substitute y into both equations and add them together
In Q2, y was 3
6(3) + 4 = 22
2(3) + 16 = 22
22 + 22 = 44
