Let the total number of students and faculty = x
Then Number of students = 17X
Number of teachers =3X
So
17X+3X=740
20X = 740
X = 37
Then the number of students = 17*37                                                     
                                               = 629
Number of teachers = 3*37                                     
                                 =111

This makes absolutely no sense at all young man/women
