Assume that you are a criminal investigator, and you are called to the scene of a kidnapping. Upon arriving at the scene, you note the following: The window on the third floor to the child’s bedroom seems to have been pried open. You note that there are two side-by-side grooves approximately half an inch on the windowsill.
You note deep groove markings about two feet apart outside the window. There are also some parallel striations in the dirt from the street to the window.
You note shoeprint impressions of size 11 in the carpeting coming from the window to the child’s crib. Some of the shoe impressions show a nick, as if the shoe kicked something like a rock.
In your opinion, what could have caused the tool marks described above?

Describe the steps you would take to record each of these tool marks as evidence.
