Which type of utilitarian would be more likely to think the following two thoughts:
Thought 1: I received an inheritance from my grandmother who died. With that
money, I could give my child $10,000 to pay for a trip to celebrate his graduation
and help pay for college, or I could give $5000 each to the two young women on my
street who are getting married this year. I'm sure that would help pay for their
wedding dress and photographers. That would make my son mad, but the young
women and their parents would be happy,
Thought 2: However, if people don't prioritize their own kids in matters like this,
society may not consider the parent/child relationship to be special at all. And
eventually, kids may not help take care of their parents when the parents get older.
This would probably be burdeonsome on society. So, I guess it brings more overall
benefit to everyone if parents help their own children with money (especially if it's
not a matter of life-or-death for the other child.)
Select one or more:
a. Rule Utilitarian
✓ b. Act Utilitarian
