Look at the three main types of judicial selection: partisan elections, nonpartisan elections, and merit selection. What system do you think is best in choosing judges and justices? What are the drawbacks of the selection you choose? That is, make sure you know what “merit” means and what a “nonpartisan election” really looks like. If you choose to keep partisan elections, how do you account for such low voter turnout? If you decide merit is best, who gets to decide the justices that are most qualified? If you think nonpartisan would be superior, could that open the door for candidates to lie about their values in order to be elected?
