How did the north and south get soldiers for the war effort?

There was a sense of pride for ones state back in the civil war.  And when the South and North separated, citizens were loyal to their states decision, not the central government because at the time the US did not have a very strong central government.  Also even though it was wrong, slavery was a key component in Souths market, so it was either fight or most likely go into poverty for the southerners. Also the confederate army had a draft.  The union got soldiers because they had pride in America and wanted to keep it in tact, but also the offered slaves freedom if they fought for the union.
