12 British colonies out of 13 were the part of First Continental Congress that later became United States. Continental Congress which took place for the first time happened  between the period of September 5 to October 22 1774 in Pennsylvania. British Navy instituted the blockade in attempt to stop this and parliament passed ‘Intolerable Act’ which was a response to ‘Boston Tea Party’ that took place in December 1773. This tea party was a Political protest that targeted the tea act which was imposed in may 1773 as it allowed the British East India Company to sell tea which was made in China. They wanted to sell this tea in American colonies without paying taxes that were imposed by Townshend Act. The protest against this was so strong that some protesters even destroyed the entire shipment which was sent by East India Company. British colonists objected Tea Act because they thought that this act will be violating there rights as Englishmen which said ‘No Taxation Without Representation’. They also opposed the fact that East India Company was given more advantages as compared to colonial tea importers who had fear of loosing their own business.
