Iwas the most famous of the african muslim rulers. i was sundiata's grandnephew. i ruled mali from 1312 to 1332. i was a skilled military leader who exercised royal control over the gold-salt trade and put down every rebellion. i had a 100,000 man army that kept order and protected mali from attack. under my rule, the empire of mali expanded to roughly twice the size of the empire of ghana. i divided the empire into provinces and appointed governors who ruled fairly and efficiently. i was a devout muslim and went on a hajj to mecca from 1324 to 1325.
