Jacob Riis was a police journalist in New York. In 1888, Riis took pictures of what life resembled in city's ghettos. Utilizing his very own photographs just as photographs accumulated from different photographic artists, Riis started to give addresses titled, "The Other Half: How It Lives and Dies in New York," in which he would demonstrate the photos on a projection screen and portray for watchers what the circumstances resembled.
