Al-Qaeda got its start as a force against the Soviet invasion of Aghanistan. Their original goal was to repel and help in the fight against the Soviet forces that were invading Afghanistan a few decaded ago. However, in the decades that then followed, their goals and ambitions grew out of those mentioned into much bigger ones.
