Why was it so important that martin luther king give his speech in front of the lincoln memorial?

lincoln declared that slavery should not be allowed to spread into the new states, and of course this angered the south at the time.

some people are just against it im not sure but i think everyone deserves to be treated equally i think people have a problem with it because its different and not like everything else i hope this !
