The 1973 Women's Equal Rights Act opened the door for women to enroll in the ROTC and the JROTC. In 1973, the All-Volunteer Force was introduced. As a result, women were given the same family benefits as the men. These changes also filtered through to the military academies. The Airforce admitted women to the ROTC in 1969. The army and navy followed in 1972. The increasing status of women in society has been copied in the Reserve and Junior Reserve forces. The curriculum and teaching methods have slowly changed to acknowledge the rights of women in the military and their ability to assume leadership positions in the military.
