             For people living in the mid-1800s many people were discriminated against because of their job, skin color, or many other things. People with low paying jobs such as factory workers had to face famine because it was so low paying. There were many immigrants from Europe at the time so nativists went on strike because the immigrants were "stealing" their jobs. Some immigrants were called emigrants.
