As a citizen of the united states in 1823, how could the monroe doctrine provide you with a sense of optimism regarding your country’s position in the world?

The Monroe Doctrine was a foreign policy developed by President James Monroe. In this doctrine, he stated that:

1) The Western Hemisphere is no longer open for colonization by European countries.

2) The United States would not interfer with colonies already established before this doctrine.

3) The United States would respond in a hostile manner to any European country that went again this doctrine.

This doctrine gave American citizens optimism, as it helped to establish America as a legitimate and independent nation free from foreign influence. Along with this, the prevention of future colonization in North America would allow American citizens to expand westward, opening up opportunities for new land/resources.

the emancipation proclamation was the aim of the war change to include the freeing of slaves in addition to preserving the union. the 13th amendment, which abolished slavery in the u.s. was passed on december 6th 1865.

as promised, lincoln waited to unveil the proclamation until he could do so with success from the union military advance. on september 22nd 1862, after a victory at antietam, he publicly announced a preliminary emancipation proclamation, declaring all slaves free in the rebellious states as of january 1st 1863.
