Why was Perry's victory at Lake Erie important ?

Perry's Victory and international Peace Memorial was established to honor to those who fought in the battle of Lake Erie, during the war of 1812 and it celebrate the long-lasting peace among Great Britain, Canada and the U.S.

some people are just against it im not sure but i think everyone deserves to be treated equally i think people have a problem with it because its different and not like everything else i hope this !
