Throughout much of the twentieth century, the United States directly and indirectly battled authoritarian governments, including dictatorships
and totalitarian states. Many of these authoritarian governments-in countries such as Italy, Haiti, Nigeria, and Japan-rose to power by taking
advantage of political, economic, or social problems facing their countries. For this task, you will research and analyze the rise of two twentieth-
century authoritarian governments: Nazi Germany and the Cambodian Khmer Rouge.
