Following the Civil War, the South was in ruins; cities had been burned to the ground, a fourth of the men had died in the war, and the end of slavery meant changing the way cotton, tobacco, and other crops were produced and harvested. President Lincoln and Congress had a difficult task ahead: how best to balance punishing the former Confederacy and its supporters while repairing the Union into a single, unified country once more.

These included President Lincoln's plan, the Radical Republicans' plan, and the final Reconstruction plan passed by Congress. In a five paragraph essay, compare (find similarities) and contrast (find differences) two of these plans and discuss which plan you think was best or what changes you would have made.
