The Tuscarorian Indians burnt during the Tuscarora War (1711-1715) During combat, Tecumseh died, forcing many Indians to give up the UK cause. One of the most notable occurrences of the American-Indian Wars happened on November 29, 1864, when 650 Colorado volunteer soldiers attacked a Cheyenne and Arapaho encampment near Sand Creek. Despite the fact that they had already began peace talks with the US government, more than 140 Native Americans were slain and disfigured, the majority of whom were women and children.
