In Europe, the social hierarchy was based on the feudal system that was prevalent during the early centuries. Feudal system prevailed from 9th to 15th century in Europe and it influenced the social hierarchies all over Europe to a great extent.The 19th century was a revolutionary period for European history and a time of great transformation in all spheres of life. Human and civil rights, democracy and nationalism, industrialisation and free market systems, all ushered in a period of change and chance.
