cSlavey had a huge effect on families and friends, it separated mother from son and daughter from father, husband from wife, and sister from brother. In the harris family, Elizas master becomes in debt and has to sell two slaves. He tom and Elizas son harry. Tom was the husband of Chloe and Harry was the son of Eliza and George. Eliza heard that her precious son had been sold and decided to run away to canada, where her husband George had planned to run away to too. Eliza went to Toms cabin after getting the news and told Uncle Tom about it, and he said ¨If someone needs to be sold id of rather it be me instead of everyone¨, so he told Eliza to take harry and go and that he would stay. The next day Tom was taken away from his wife, and kids. Haley had attempted to recapture what he had lost (Harry). Haley chased Eliza acrossed the iced river where she had then meet an old master, she begged him to hide her but he said he could not, so he told her someone who could. Thats when they later also brought her husband back too and they were reunited. They then were on the way to the next place and thats when they were almost caught but tom stood in the way and said that they would have to get through him to get to his wife and that he would basically put up a fight . Those two are examples of what effect slavey has on familes because it shows multiple themes that are carried out out the novel, motherhood, evil of slavery, and whats legal vs whats morally right.
