In it, he touches on the topics of government and society, monarchy and the rule of succession etc. He challenged the authority of the British government in their colonization of the American states. Paine also said that since man ruling over another man is a sin, as found in the Bible, so also Britain's rule over America is unacceptable according to Christian values.
