This dynasty is very important in Korean history, due to the fact that they created the Korean alphabet, known as Hangeul. It was created for the common people of Korea who found it difficult to read and write Chinese characters. It was originated by the academics of Jiphyeonjeon under the order of King Sejong the Great in 1446. This alphabet is considered to be one of the greatest achievements of Koreans.
Jodeon dynasty was also excellent constructing ships. The Turtle Ship was invented and constructed by Admiral Yi Sun-sin. This turtle ship was also called Geobukseon, and it was used by the Royal Korean Navy in the battles against Japanese naval ships. It received this name because it was shaped as a turtle, with its shell perforated with innumerable spears, surrounded with iron spikes in order to intimidate the enemy from trying to enter the ship; and its figure head was a dragon's head that could launch cannon fire or flames from the mouth.
